A slum fire in the Philippine capital Manila has engulfed thousands of homes. No one has been injured.
The fire broke out around 11 am Sunday on Isla Puting Bato, an island near the capital Manila, AFP reported.
The Manila Fire Department said the fire destroyed about 1,000 homes. The fire is believed to have started on the second floor of one of the houses and quickly spread, sparking the blaze.
The Fire and Disaster Department deployed 36 fire engines and four fire boats, while the Air Force also sent two helicopters to help fight the fire.
"Most of the houses are made of lightweight materials, so they are prone to fire," a firefighter said.
