Inbound tour bookings for the Dragon Boat Festival increased by 115%

China's Dragon Boat Festival holiday saw a 115% year-on-year increase in outbound travel bookings.

Last Saturday (June 8) to this Monday (June 10) is the Dragon Boat Festival holiday in China. According to the 2024 Dragon Boat Festival Travel Report released by travel platform Ctrip on Monday, inbound travel orders on the three platforms increased by 115 percent year-on-year, with the most tourists coming from the United States, Britain, Australia, South Korea and Malaysia.

Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Xi 'an, Nanjing and Qingdao are the top 10 most popular destinations for foreign tourists entering China during the Dragon Boat Festival.

In terms of domestic travel, Ctrip reported that consumers seek cultural tourism during traditional holidays such as the Dragon Boat Festival, and dragon boat races and folk customs have become a new hot spot to drive the growth of the tourism market. For example, in Foshan, home to dragon boat races, car rental orders are up 250 per cent year on year.

During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, 110 million domestic trips were made across the country, up 6.3 per cent year on year, with total spending of 40.35 billion yuan (S $7.67 billion), up 8.1 per cent year on year, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
