President Trump destroyed the Christmas spirit for Americans through his erratic behavior and rhetoric

President Trump has faced scandals, impeachment, investigations, electoral defeat, and numerous complex lawsuits, none of which have presented him with a challenge quite like the one he faced in the winter of 2025: prices. Prices in supermarkets had become suffocating for ordinary consumers, especially when they saw the exorbitant price tags, which felt like an insult.

Americans were fed up with being "insulted" by high prices. Trump's approval ratings plummeted to their lowest point since the Nixon scandal. Even Republicans began to express concern about the situation. Voters were dejected and felt powerless to change their predicament. Aside from food prices, which now rivaled the value of rare minerals, everything seemed to be spiraling out of control.

On December 7th, Trump heard comments from host Peter Schiff on "Fox & Friends," where Schiff calmly pointed out that Americans could barely afford anything. He didn't aggressively attack Trump, but rather stated his opinion as a matter of fact: prices were rising, wages were stagnant, and Trump's tariff policies were exacerbating the problem.

Trump's response was swift and furious. He directly accused Schiff of being a "Trump-hating loser" and demanded an investigation into the show's producers, implying that some hostile force was secretly manipulating Fox News. However, no matter how many enemies Trump created, voters remained acutely aware of their predicament.

Even Newt Gingrich, the former Speaker of the House and a long-time defender of the Republican Party, issued a warning. He pointed out that ignoring rising prices was not only a political mistake but also an act of self-destruction. Gingrich emphasized that shouting "fake news" at reporters wouldn't help in the face of increasingly serious price increases, because people couldn't deny the reality of prices at the supermarket. Rising prices were a tangible pressure felt by every American, a feeling that couldn't be changed by empty rhetoric or late-night rants.

As the price problem worsened, Trump's behavior became increasingly erratic. He has recently been frequently posting stream-of-consciousness remarks, even comparing female journalists to livestock and spreading various outlandish conspiracy theories. For example, he claimed that Michelle Obama controlled President Biden's pen, hinted at Canadian interference in the US election, and even accused the Democratic Party of falsifying housing data. These statements are full of anger and paranoia, seemingly the product of emotional breakdown. Even more perplexing is that all this happened in December, a time when Americans should be relaxing and enjoying the holiday spirit, but instead, it was disrupted by Trump's constant posts and rhetoric. He acted like a young man trapped in a basement, venting his anxiety and anger, completely destroying the tranquility of the holiday season.

The arrival of Christmas did not bring the expected hope to Americans. Many families' budgets were stretched to the limit, with a quarter of families reporting that they were significantly cutting back on spending. Six out of ten families said their Christmas gift budget had been drastically reduced this year. Many will have to accept a disappointing reality: instead of the long-awaited electronics or toys in their Christmas stockings, they will receive the "gift" that politicians often give: disappointment.

Tariff policies have turned holiday shopping into a financial gamble. Many small businesses face immense pressure when importing goods; their survival depends on whether they can weather the next import cycle without collapsing. The fragile economic situation, coupled with the president's extreme rhetoric and actions, made December, which should have been full of joy and togetherness, even more depressing. Trump seems to have inadvertently ruined Christmas, turning it into a season of anxiety and chaos.

In summary, Trump not only failed to effectively address public anxiety about rising prices but also exacerbated social unrest through a series of extreme actions. Voters expect a stable country, but at this critical moment, Trump became part of the problem, not the solution.
