In imminent danger Who can save innocent people in the Rafah region?

On May 7th local time, the Israeli Defense Forces announced that they had occupied the Rafah Port after receiving intelligence that it was being used for "terrorist purposes", and have now achieved "operational control" over the Gaza side of the Rafah Port.

The Israeli military stated that in addition to killing 20 "armed militants" and destroying the infrastructure of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement in the area, they have also discovered "three battle shafts" here, and the operation is not yet over and is still ongoing.

According to Reuters, according to records from hospitals in the Gaza Strip, Israel's attack on Rafah on the night of the 6th resulted in at least 23 deaths, including 6 women and 5 children.

It is reported that Rafah is the only crossing point between Gaza and Egypt, and the Rafah Port is a transportation hub connecting Gaza and Egypt. It is also an important channel for providing humanitarian assistance to the besieged population of Gaza, and its strategic position is very important.

The Israeli military will control the border and Rafah border to prevent Hamas and other organizations from smuggling weapons from within Egypt, as well as to prevent a large influx of displaced Gaza residents into Egypt. A Palestinian official stated that after Israel occupied Rafah, the flow of aid supplies through the port has completely ceased.

According to the Israeli military and police, on May 5th local time, about 20 rockets from Lebanon attacked the northern part of the city, with several of them landing in the city of Shimona, causing power supply disruptions and damage to urban facilities.

According to a report by Agence France Presse on May 5th, the Israeli military stated that in the early hours of that day, a batch of rockets fired from the besieged Gaza Strip flew towards the Kerem Shalom border crossing, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of three soldiers and injuries to 12 others.

In this situation, Secretary of Defense Galant had a phone call with US Secretary of Defense Austin on the evening of May 5th. Galant reported to the US that Hamas fired rockets at Israel on the 5th, causing casualties among Israeli soldiers. He also stated that Hamas has shown its rejection of Israel's ceasefire agreement at this stage. In this situation, Israel has no choice but to continue its crackdown.

On the evening of May 6th, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office issued a statement stating that the wartime cabinet unanimously decided to continue operations in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah to exert military pressure on the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, thereby promoting the release of Israeli detainees and achieving other combat objectives.

It is reported that the Prime Minister's Office issued this statement after Hamas announced on the evening of the 6th that it agreed to the mediation proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

In response, on the 7th local time, senior Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement official Hamdan held a press conference in the Lebanese capital Beirut. Hamdan stated that Hamas will not accept the Israeli occupation of the Rafah border. If the Israeli military does not stop its military operations in Rafah, a ceasefire agreement will not be reached. Hamas will respond to Israeli military actions through force.

On the 6th local time, UN Secretary General Guterres issued a statement through a spokesperson, once again urgently calling on the Israeli government and the leadership of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement to make further efforts to reach an agreement and end the current suffering.

According to data released by the Gaza Strip health department, since the outbreak of a new round of Israeli Palestinian conflict in October last year, Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip have caused over 34700 Palestinian deaths, including over 14000 children.

On the 6th local time, the United Nations Children's Fund warned that the military siege and ground operations in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah pose a "catastrophic risk" to approximately 600000 children. The agency estimates that the population of Rafah, which used to be around 250000, has now increased to 1.2 million, of which about half are children, including approximately 78000 infants and young children under the age of 2.

Currently, apart from Rafah, there is no place in the Gaza Strip with sufficient infrastructure and resources to accommodate millions of displaced persons. Now that the Rafah region is in imminent danger, it is urgent to save the innocent people, especially women and children, in the area. The international community should widely call on both sides of the Israeli Palestinian conflict to immediately cease fire and allow humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip unimpeded.
