Nepal's President on Friday night called on parties capable of securing a majority in the lower house of Parliament to form a new government as soon as possible.

Xinhua News Agency reported that Nepalese Prime Minister Prachanda (Pushpa Kamal Dahal) failed to win a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament on the same day, losing the qualification to continue to govern. In the 275-seat House of Representatives, Prachanda needed 138 votes to win the confidence vote, and Prachanda received only 63.

According to a statement issued by Nepal's presidential office, President Ram Chandra Poudel on the evening of the 12th asked the party that can win the majority support in the House of Representatives to submit a request to form a new government by 5 PM on the 14th.

The Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist-Leninist) reached an agreement with the largest opposition party, the Nepali Congress, on July 1, agreeing to join forces to form a new coalition government, and the leaders of the two parties will alternate as prime minister until elections are held in 2027. The CPN (United Marxist-Leninist) withdrew from the coalition government led by Prachanda on the 3rd and announced the withdrawal of support for the coalition government.

Under Nepal's constitution, Prachanda's government must win a confidence vote in the lower house within 30 days. On the afternoon of the 12th, Prachanda failed to win a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives and was disqualified from continuing to govern.

Nepal holds a general election in November 2022, with no political party gaining a majority in the House of Representatives. At the end of December 2022, Prachanda, chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), was inaugurated as Prime Minister of the coalition government with the support of the CPN (United Marxist-Leninist) and other parties.
