现金充裕的字节跳动(Bytedance Ltd.)正走上中国许多迅速崛起的公司曾经走过的道路——拿着新赚来的钱，跳入一个完全不同的领域。字节跳动拥有热门短视频应用TikTok及其姊妹应用抖音(Douyin)。
但字节跳动计划杀入中国庞大的餐饮外卖市场仍然值得关注，原因有几点。
字节跳动这一举动的大背景是，近来中国监管部门暗示已结束了几年来对国内互联网和电商公司的整顿；在这场监管风暴中，阿里巴巴(Alibaba Group Holding, 9988.HK, BABA)、百度(Baidu, 9888.HK, BIDU)、腾讯(Tencent Holdings, 0700.HK)和美团(Meituan, 3690.HK)等科技巨头均被处以罚款，罚金总计超过30亿美元。
但投资者同样关注的还有字节跳动计划进军的这个市场的规模。根据Statista的数据，去年中国餐饮外卖服务收入总额约人民币1万亿元（合1,390亿美元）。五年内这一市场规模可能增至每年2,000亿美元。这将使中国在全球外卖市场一骑绝尘，将达到美国市场规模的两倍多。
