Chandrayaan-3 Will make the first-ever moon landing attempt

India's Chandrayaan-3 lunar probe is on its way to the lunar surface for the country's first ever lunar landing attempt.

According to CNN, the Indian Space Research Organization said on August 22 that Chandrayaan-3 was flying smoothly as planned. The probe will begin its final attempt to land on the moon's surface at 5.45pm Indian time on Wednesday.

Chandrayaan-3, developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation at a cost of about US $73 million (S $99.03 million), is India's second attempt at a soft landing on the moon.

If the Chandrayaan-3 landing is successful, it will mark the first time an Indian spacecraft has completed a soft landing on the lunar surface, and India will become the fourth country ever to achieve this achievement. Currently, only the United States, China and the former Soviet Union have achieved controlled moon landing.

Russia, which is competing with India for the fourth country to land on the moon, has just announced that its first lunar probe in nearly 50 years, Luna 25, failed to enter the pre-landing orbit due to an anomaly and eventually crashed on the moon.
