Iranian hackers have threatened to disclose more emails of Trump's close aides

Hackers linked to Iran are threatening to disclose more emails stolen from the inner circle of US President Trump. This hacker group has leaked a batch of these emails to the media before the 2024 US presidential election.

The group of hackers, who went by the pseudonym "Robert", had online chats with Reuters on Sunday and Monday (June 29th and 30th).

They claim to have approximately 100GB of emails. These emails came from White House Chief of Staff Wiles, Trump's lawyer Lindsey Halligan, Trump's advisor Roger Stone, and Stormy Daniels, the porn actress involved in the Trump gag bill case and now an anti-Trump activist.

Robert the hacker did not describe the content of these emails. They raised the possibility of selling these materials and, apart from that, did not provide details of their plan.

Representatives of Halligan, Stone and Daniels, as well as the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.

The White House and the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Patel, issued a statement saying, "Anyone involved in any violation of national security will be subject to a comprehensive investigation and the most severe prosecution in accordance with the law."

The Iranian delegation to the United Nations did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Tehran previously denied conducting cyber espionage activities.

The Robert hacking gang emerged in the final months of the 2024 US presidential campaign, claiming to have hacked into the email accounts of several of Trump's confidants, including Wells, and then sent the emails to the media.

Reuters had previously confirmed the authenticity of some of the leaked materials, among which an email seemed to document the financial arrangements between Trump and the lawyer of former presidential candidate Kennedy Jr. Kennedy Jr. Is currently the United States Secretary of Health.

Other materials include communications from Trump's campaign team regarding Republican public office candidates and discussions on reconciliation with Daniels.

Although the media made some reports on the leaked emails by hackers, it did not change the result of last year's US presidential election. Trump was still elected.

In an indictment filed in September last year, the US Department of Justice accused the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran of carrying out the Robert hacking operation. In a conversation with Reuters, Robert the hacker refused to respond to the accusation.

After Trump won the election, Robert hackers told Reuters that they had no plans to leak more information. In May this year, Robert the hacker also told Reuters, "I'm retired." But after a 12-day war broke out between Israel and Iran in June, Robert the hacker resumed communication with Reuters.

In this week's message, Robert hackers said they were arranging for the sale of stolen emails and hoped Reuters would "broadcast the incident".

Frederick Kagan, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute who has written articles on Iran's cyber espionage activities, said that Tehran has suffered heavy losses in the Israeli-Iran conflict, and Iranian spies may be trying to retaliate in a way that does not draw more actions from the United States or Israel.
