日本总务省最新公布的人口动态调查结果显示，截至今年1月1日，包括外国人在内的日本总人口为1.24885亿人，比上一年减少约53.2万人。
共同社报道，日本总务省星期三（7月24日）公布报告称，居住在日本国内的日本公民人数为1.21561亿人，比上一年减少约86.1万人，相当于减少0.70%，这是自1968年开始调查以来的最大降幅。
在各都道府县中，仅有东京人口略微增长。调查结果反映出日本严峻的少子化问题，建议当务之急是采取措施维持地区的活力。
反观日本人口逐年递减，所有都道府县的外国人却持续增加，首次超过300万人。
这项基于居民基本登记册的调查显示，日本共有1亿2156万1801人口，但在近15年里逐年递减。主要原因是死亡人数创纪录新高，达约158万人，但出生人数创新低，只有约73万人，远少于死亡人数。
若从各都道府县的日本人人口来看，仅东京微增0.03%。降幅排名前三的是秋田1.83%、青森1.72%，以及岩手1.61%。
