Former Deputy Defense Minister of Russia, Ivanov, was convicted of corruption and sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Reuters reported that Timur Ivanov was sentenced to prison on Tuesday (July 1st). Ivanov has never pleaded guilty. His lawyer said he would appeal. This is one of the biggest corruption scandals in Russia's defense agencies in recent years.

Ivanov was arrested in April last year on suspicion of accepting bribes. More than ten people, including two former deputy ministers, were also arrested in connection with the case. Filatov, a former subordinate of Ivanov, was later sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison.

The total amount of embezzlement suspected by Ivanov and others amounts to 4.1 billion rubles, most of which was transferred to two foreign accounts through banks.

As the case involved state secrets, it was heard behind closed doors.

Russian media reported that Ivanov and his wife own a luxury apartment in the center of Moscow, a three-story British-style mansion in the suburbs of the capital, and have a large collection of cars, including a Bentley and an Aston Martin.
