路透社报道，印度媒体引述政府数据报道这一情况。今年5月，印度遭遇极端天气袭击，首都辖区德里和附近的拉贾斯坦邦（Rajasthan）气温高达50摄氏度；东部部分地区则一直受到超强气旋雷马尔（Remal）的影响，阿萨姆邦（Assam）本周已有14人死亡。
与此同时，南部的卡纳塔克邦（Karnataka）和喀拉拉邦（Kerala）的城市也有暴雨。卡纳塔克邦德科技城市班加罗尔星期天（6月2日）的降雨量达到111.1毫米，是该市自1891年6月以来的最高水平。
包括气候变化在内的多种因素，共同造成了印度等南亚国家的炎热夏天。印度北部的北方邦（Uttar Pradesh）和比哈尔邦（Bihar），以及东部的奥迪沙邦（Odisha），至少有33人疑似中暑死亡，其中包括在大选投票期间执勤的选举官员。
新闻网站The Print引述印度国家疾病控制中心的数据称，5月的热浪情况最为糟糕，全国共有46人因高温死亡，疑似中暑病例多达1万9189例。
《印度教徒报》则报道称，如果包括疑似病例，印度高温死亡人数可能远高于80人。
气象局预测，本星期三（5日）之前高温将有所缓解。上周喀拉拉邦提前到来的季风有望带来更多纾解作用。
