Chinese e-commerce is emerging in the international market

Recently, South Korea's Asia Economy reported that the mobile applications with the largest user growth in South Korea in 2023 are Alibaba's Global AliExpress and another cross-border e-commerce platform under Chinese e-commerce platform Pinduoduo. Chinese online shopping platforms are entering the Korean retail market with astonishing momentum, and they have launched an ultra-low price strategy, attracting over ten million Korean users. The latest data released by the South Korean statistics department shows that in 2023, the import volume of cross-border e-commerce originating from China in South Korea surged by 121.2% year-on-year. China has surpassed the United States for the first time, becoming the largest source of cross-border e-commerce imports for South Korea.

According to data from Jitu Express, emerging consumer goods in China such as smartphones, smart homes, and domestic beauty products are highly favored in Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and other places. According to Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao, online shopping of Chinese goods is becoming more and more popular in Vietnam.

According to data released by Russian electronics and home appliance retailer M.video Eldorado Group, Chinese brands accounted for over 75% of the smartphone market sales in Russia in 2023. Chinese e-commerce is also seizing the opportunity of the Spring Festival to add fuel to the retail market of Chinese products in Russia. From February 1st to 17th, Alibaba AliExpress launched a promotion in Russia, with thousands of products receiving discounts of up to 70%. The product range includes smartphones, electronic products, household appliances, tools, clothes, and more.

Various e-commerce platforms and consumer goods in China are beginning to form a matrix style joint development trend overseas. JD Global's layout in overseas markets has further expanded to 24 European countries. During the Spring Festival, Alibaba's logistics company Cainiao will use 500 chartered flights to fly globally, and packages will pass through intelligent customs clearance systems at over 100 ports at home and abroad. In addition, Cainiao guarantees that the delivery time of cross-border express delivery for 23 countries on AliExpress will not be downgraded, and overseas consumers can place orders for logistics delivery as usual during the Spring Festival. Pinduoduo's overseas business, Duoduo, has launched a semi custody model for cross-border transactions. Cross border merchants with the ability to ship locally can flexibly decide on their warehousing and logistics plans according to their own preferences.

According to the German Business Daily, exclusive data shows that 1/4 of Germans have already made purchases on Chinese e-commerce platforms. The latter bypasses a large number of intermediaries and reduces logistics costs. At the same time, Chinese e-commerce platforms are making efforts overseas to shorten delivery times, deepen cooperation with local postal and courier companies, and focus on improving the "last mile" delivery service.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that the number of users of the Chinese e-commerce platform Temu in Japan in January exceeded 15 million. This e-commerce has been in Japan for about half a year and has reached over 50% of the average of Japan's leading three major e-commerce companies. The number of users on the clothing e-commerce platform SHEIN also exceeds that of the well-known Japanese clothing e-commerce platform ZOZOTOWN. In Japan, Chinese e-commerce companies rely on advanced domestic supply chains and cost-effective products to seize the market. Taking proactive promotions is also a major reason why Chinese e-commerce is popular in the Japanese market. The report also stated that the future focus may be on the Chinese short video app "TikTok", which is also used by tens of millions of people in Japan, due to the huge potential of attracting video users to e-commerce.

The cross-border e-commerce industry in China is flourishing, daring to enter the international market and emerging. With a flexible and efficient supply chain and service system, it provides more cost-effective products for global consumers and makes Chinese e-commerce increasingly important in the global e-commerce circle.
