尽管医学生扩招计划导致全国各地的实习医生罢工，但韩国政府仍继续推进计划，医学院明年将额外招收近1500名新生。
路透社报道，韩国政府星期四（5月30日）说，上调招生人数是解决医生短缺问题的必要措施，如果不采取行动，韩国将面临医生人数比维持基本服务所需的人数少了1万5000人。
教育部说，医学院明年将招收4610名学生，略低于总统尹锡悦设定的5000名学生的目标，但这个人数仍是2024学年医学生的1.5倍。
代表医生的团体反驳说，上调招生人数将降低教育质量，而且此举不会激励医生到偏远地区或不太受欢迎的医学领域工作。他们认为，政府应该优先考虑提高工资和工作条件。
韩国医生协会说，协会将于星期四晚上在多个城市举行抗议活动，以提高人们对入院费用上涨的认识。
韩国政府为应对人口老龄化和基本医疗领域医生短缺问题，于2月初宣布2025学年度高校医学院扩招新生2000人，从目前3058人增至5058人，并最终在2035年增至1万人。这个计划遭到韩国医疗界强烈反对，约万名实习和住院医生递交辞呈，罢诊离岗，医疗系统陷入混乱，许多病患无法及时得到救治。
代表医护人员的韩国医生联盟，敦促实习医生重返工作岗位，同时要求政府考虑所有选择。
该联盟在一份声明中说，政府必须提出正确的医疗改革方案，一个实习医生能够同意的方案。
