The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, the independent agency that investigates plane crashes, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. Transport Canada, a government agency, said it was closely monitoring the incident.
The Canadian crash follows several other crashes in North America in late January. An Army helicopter collided with a passenger plane in Washington, killing 67 people, and a medical transport plane crashed in Philadelphia, killing at least seven.
A Facebook user who claimed to be a passenger on the flight, John Nelson, posted a video and wrote: "Our plane crashed. Upside down." Agence France-Presse quoted him as saying: "Most people seem to be safe and sound. We all got off the plane."
Peel regional Emergency service director Lawrence Saindon said the Peel Regional Emergency Service confirmed eight people were injured in the crash, one of them in a critical condition and the rest with mild to moderate injuries. CBS reported that three people were in critical condition, one of whom was a child.
Video from the scene on the station's News Channel3 showed a Delta passenger jet on its side at the airport and people leaving the plane.
