印度内阁批准了在议会下院和邦议会中，为女性保留三分之一席位的法案。
路透社报道，印度总理莫迪星期二（9月19日）在议会特别会议上宣布这一消息，重启这项搁置了数十年的提案。
距离印度2024年5月大选还有八个月。莫迪在议会下院说：“过去曾就女性保留席位问题进行过多次辩论。我呼吁各位议员支持这项法案。”这项法案需要得到议会和邦议会的批准，才能成为法律。
在印度9.5亿登记选民中，女性几乎占一半，但在议会中仅占15%，在邦立法机构中约占10%。这使得这个世界上最大的民主国家，在全球立法机构性别均等排名中垫底。
