Hundreds of Samsung Electronics workers in India have gone on strike for a third consecutive day, demanding higher wages and better working hours.
South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics (Samsung) went on strike at its factory outside the southern Indian city of Chennai, with hundreds of employees walking off the job for a third consecutive day from Monday to Wednesday, AFP reported.
The factory employs about 1,800 people and produces televisions, refrigerators and other goods.
Workers' representative and union leader Muthukumar said: "Apart from raising wages and improving working hours, we are also asking companies to recognise unions... We have asked the company and are in talks with them."
A Samsung India spokesman said employee welfare was the company's top priority and the company would ensure the incident would not cause disruption to customers. "We actively engage with our employees to address any grievances they may have and comply with all laws and regulations."
India's growing middle class is an important growth market for Samsung, which accounts for nearly a quarter of South Korea's gross domestic product.
In July, Samsung Electronics workers in South Korea also went on strike for several days, with thousands demanding higher wages and benefits.
