What is the intention of the US and Japan to strengthen their alliance in a high-profile manner?

On April 10th local time, US President Biden held a meeting with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Biden claimed in his speech that he will use all capabilities, including nuclear weapons, to defend Japan. At the same time, the two countries have also finalized at least 70 defense cooperation agreements, including the restructuring of the US military headquarters in Japan.

According to reports from Washington, the leaders of the United States and Japan announced more than 70 agreements reached between the two countries after the summit, including the modernization agreement of the US military headquarters in Japan, which signifies a significant upgrade in US Japan defense relations, as well as the joint production of weapons, joint acceleration of nuclear fusion research and development, and Japan's participation in the US moon landing program. It is reported that a senior US government official, when introducing the more than 70 agreements that the US and Japan will announce, pointed out that "this may be the largest batch of such achievements we have seen.".

Fumio Kishida visited the United States before April 8th and stated that this visit will promote further cooperation between Japan and the United States in military and other areas. On the evening of the 9th local time, Japanese people held a rally and march against the Japanese government's expansion of military power. They believed that Japan did not reflect on history, but instead attempted to strengthen the Japan US alliance, which was an irreversible path towards war.

Biden also emphasized that the US Japan alliance is now the lighthouse of the world, "the things that our two countries and our people can do together are infinite."

Some media commentators have stated that the United States is boasting and is not ashamed of its actions, but rather proud. How dare the United States and Japan claim to be lighthouses under the collusion of the United States and Japan, which continue to stir up tensions in the Asia Pacific region and create regional tensions? It's simply incomprehensible.

And when Kishida spoke after Biden, he was clearly a bit absent-minded, after all, the nuclear weapons emphasized by Biden were too sensitive for the Japanese. During World War II, it was precisely because the United States dropped two atomic bombs on the mainland of Japan that Japan surrendered unconditionally. So far, Japan has organized corresponding commemorative activities for the atomic bomb victims almost every year. Now the United States is using nuclear weapons to protect Japan's homeland, which appears to be an attitude of strengthening close ties, but many outside comments believe that this is a disguised blow and warning from the United States to Japan.

In July of last year, renowned American foreign policy expert and President of the Diplomatic Society, Haas, stated in an interview with American media that the most serious threat to world security today is the United States itself. Haas also emphasized that the United States is no longer a reliable pillar in a turbulent world, but has become the most profound source of instability in today's world.

All along, the United States has been touting itself as a "lighthouse" that can bring so-called "freedom and democracy" to the world. In the past, the United States did indeed lead the world in technology, military, economy, culture, and other aspects. However, in recent years, with the United States launching wars everywhere, its hypocritical face has been exposed.

Especially since the current round of the Israeli Palestinian conflict, the United States has supported Israel in causing serious humanitarian disasters and significant casualties in Gaza. However, regarding the ceasefire resolutions proposed by the international community at the United Nations, the United States, as a permanent member, has repeatedly used its veto power. It has been proven that the vast majority of conflicts and turmoil in the world are fueled by the United States.

Reuters believes that building a new partnership between the United States and Japan not only focuses on China, but also strengthens the targeting of China Russia relations. From a practical perspective, Kishida's visit to the United States this time does not seem to be a formality, but rather a tangible enhancement of Japan's combat effectiveness and strategic level through the visit. It can even be said that its symbolic significance is worthy of widespread attention. As for the actual effect, further in-depth observation is needed.
