According to the South Korean military on Tuesday (November 26), the South Korean military found that the North Korean military had cut the power transmission tower wires near the Gyeongui Line road from the 24th.
Yonhap news agency reported that the South Korean military analysis pointed out that the move may be part of North Korea's transmission tower demolition operations.
On October 15, North Korea blew up the Gyeongui Line highway north of the Military Demarcation Line (MDL), which leads to the Kaesong complex and has power transmission towers every few hundred meters. There are 48 transmission towers running from Munsaneup in Paju, South Korea, to the Peace Substation in Kaesong, North Korea, 15 of which are on the North Korean side.
The power transmission equipment installed by the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) was connected and powered on in December 2006 to provide power to the Kaesong complex. However, the DPRK conducted a nuclear test in January 2016, and the ROK cut off electricity supply from February of the same year. Later, with the easing of inter-Korean relations, the South Korean side partially restored the power supply, but in June 2020, the North Korean side unilaterally blew up the Inter-Korean liaison office, and the South Korean side cut off the supply again.
