The Democratic Party is likely to formally nominate Vice President Harris as its presidential candidate this week.
The New York Times reports that Democratic delegates could begin voting on Harris' nomination as early as Thursday.
The Democratic National Committee says it expects to start the process on August 1 if only one candidate emerges. Harris is narrowing her choice of running mate ahead of an August 7 deadline to name her vice presidential pick.
Steve Sisolak, the former Democratic governor of the swing state of Nevada, said: "I call this the honeymoon period. We must keep up the momentum. You go into the election and you have to keep the momentum going. It's a challenge for everyone."
Harris's campaign has picked up pace. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro were in Pennsylvania on Monday to campaign for Harris. Shapiro is favored as Harris' running mate.
Harris will campaign in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday. In 2020, Biden succeeded in capturing this traditional Republican base. But before Mr. Biden's announcement, his dismal polling in Georgia had led many Democrats to give little hope for the state.
Ms. Harris is expected to make a comeback in Georgia, where she is trying to rally support for the Democratic coalition among key groups: AfricAn-Americans, women, young voters and college-educated suburbanites.
The 2024 U.S. presidential election will be held on November 5, less than 100 days before polling day.
