印度政府消息人士说，由于国内大米库存创下历史新高，当局可能会降低印度香米出口的最低价格，并取消对蒸谷米征收的20%出口税。
印度是全球最大的大米出口国，但为控制本土价格，当局2023年对本国大米出口实施了各种限制，并于今年继续实施这些限制。
路透社星期四（7月18日）引述政府消息人士报道称，新德里当局预计将把巴斯马蒂大米（basmati rice，又称印度香米）的最低出口价格，从每公吨950美元降至每公吨800至850美元，以增加发货量。
降低最低出口价格将有助于印度维持市场份额，以抗衡巴基斯坦。由于新德里的出口限制，巴基斯坦今年的大米出口量创下历史新高。两国都是巴斯马蒂大米的主要出口国。
消息人士称，印度预计还将取消对蒸谷米（俗称半熟米）的20%出口税，并引入最低出口税，从而阻止低报发货量。
据路透社上个月报道，政府正在研究放松大米出口限制的可能性，包括恢复白米出口。
此外，印度也是全球第二大糖出口国。马来西亚当局已对印度提出要求，希望新德里放宽对大米和糖等部分农产品的出口限制。
马来西亚种植和商品部长乔哈里（Johari Abdul Ghani）说，印度突然对农产品试试出口限制对马来西亚不利，“如果印度放开限制，对马国来说会是好事”。
印度是马来西亚糖、大米和洋葱的主要来源国，而马国则是印度第二大棕榈油来源国。
