French police have launched an investigation after the Grand Palais and 40 museums in Paris were hit by a ransomware attack over the weekend, sources said.
Police sources revealed on Monday (August 5) that cybercriminals launched a ransomware attack on the financial data systems of the above-mentioned institutions last Saturday (August 3) and demanded payment or the financial data would be released.
France's national cyber security agency confirmed it had received reports but said the hacked systems were not related to the Olympics.
The Grand Palais, which is currently used as an Olympic venue for fencing and martial arts competitions, confirmed the cyber attack but gave no details.
The Louvre, a famous museum in Paris, has denied being the victim of a cyber attack.
