WWDC2024: Apple Intelligence leads the innovation trend, but behind it lies many challenges and truths

image

Recently, WWDC2024 opened grandly at Apple Park, showcasing Apple's latest technological achievements and innovative thinking to the world. At the press conference, Apple updated its operating systems such as iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS, and launched its first visionOS, which attracted widespread attention from the industry and consumers. However, beyond these routine system updates, what is undoubtedly more remarkable is Apple's significant breakthrough in the field of AI. Apple CEO Tim Cook has personally announced the launch of a new personal intelligence system, "Apple Intelligence," aimed at understanding and creating language and images through the capabilities of Apple chips, as well as taking action across applications. However, behind this seemingly brilliant innovation lies some truths worth pondering.

Firstly, we need to recognize that Apple Intelligence is not a completely new technology, but rather an integration and upgrade of Apple's existing technology. Although Apple heavily promoted this technology at the press conference, in reality, it is just a small step in the field of artificial intelligence. Although this technology integration and upgrade can improve user experience, it has not brought about disruptive changes.

Secondly, there are certain limitations to the use of Apple Intelligence on the device side. Currently, only iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max phones are able to use this feature, while tablets and computers require M1 chips (and updated M-series chips). This restriction will undoubtedly weaken the popularity of Apple Intelligence, making it difficult for many users to enjoy the convenience of this technology.

In addition, Apple Intelligence currently only supports English, which will limit its global application. Although Apple has stated that it will support more languages and devices in the next year, this time lag will undoubtedly affect the user experience.

In terms of AI functionality, although Apple showcased many impressive features at the launch event, such as rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text in system wide writing tools, not all of these features are innovative. Some of these functions, such as priority notification, audio recording, and transcription, have already been implemented on other platforms. Apple has only integrated and optimized these features to better suit the usage habits of Apple users.

However, it is these seemingly minor improvements that have raised questions about Apple's innovation capabilities. In the past, Apple has always been known for innovation, and its product design and functionality often led industry trends. However, in recent years, Apple's innovation power seems to have weakened and is more focused on integrating and optimizing existing technologies. This trend is not only reflected in Apple Intelligence, but also in Apple's other products and services.

In addition, we also need to pay attention to the integration of Apple and ChatGPT. Although this integration provides users with more convenient chatbots and image generation functions, it also raises concerns about data security and privacy protection. After all, ChatGPT, as an artificial intelligence model, requires a large amount of user data for training and optimization. As a company with a large user base, how to ensure the security and privacy of user data for Apple will be a serious issue that needs to be considered.

In summary, although Apple Intelligence on WWDC2024 has brought us many surprises and expectations, there are also some truths worth pondering behind it. We need to recognize that technological innovation is not an overnight process and requires continuous experimentation and improvement. At the same time, we also need to remain vigilant about Apple's innovation and expect it to bring more disruptive changes. For users, we also need to pay more attention to their data security and privacy protection, to avoid ignoring risks due to the pursuit of convenience.
