U.S. Vice President Harry Harris' approval rating has jumped eight percentage points since President Joe Biden dropped his bid for re-election a week ago, according to a poll released Sunday.
Harris' approval rating rose to 43 percent from 35 percent a week earlier, according to an ABC News/Ipsos survey conducted Friday and Saturday. At the same time, the percentage of respondents who disliked Harris dropped from 46 percent to 42 percent.
Harris' Republican opponent, Trump, saw his approval rating drop from 40 percent to 36 percent.
Biden earlier announced his withdrawal from the race and said he would support Harris to replace him. The Democratic Party has yet to formally nominate a presidential candidate, but enough delegates have pledged to support Harris in the nomination vote. Fifty-two percent said she should be the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.
The poll also found that the important group of independent voters had improved on Harris, with her approval jumping to 44 percent from 28 percent a week earlier.
The poll of 1,200 adults nationwide has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
