Thailand plans to launch an online entry form in May for all foreign visitors

Thailand plans to introduce an online entry form from May 1 this year, and all foreigners entering the country must fill out the form online.

Previously, foreign tourists had to fill out a paper entry form (TM6) when entering Thailand, but the Thai government suspended the requirement on April 15 last year to streamline the entry process for foreign tourists, the Bangkok Post reported on Sunday (January 26). Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Natthriya Thaweevong said the exemption from filling in immigration forms will expire on April 30 this year, and the digital version will be introduced from May 1, replacing the original paper version.

According to regulations, all foreign tourists entering Thailand by land, sea and air must complete an online entry form. Natria said the move is expected to help authorities understand where tourists are going in Thailand, improve tourists' trust in Thailand's safety and eliminate negative perceptions of the country.

The Ministry of Tourism held a meeting this week and invited the immigration Department to demonstrate the operation of the online immigration form system. The Ministry also plans to hold a meeting on January 31 with all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tourism authorities, airlines, hotels and travel agencies, to further understand the online entry form and help inform foreigners about the filling process.

The cabinet is expected to approve the plan in February to allow all parties involved to prepare.

In addition, the Thai government said in October last year that it plans to impose a 300 baht tourism tax on tourists arriving by air from mid-2025. A tourism ministry source said the policy was likely to be delayed because the government wanted to give time for the online entry form process to run smoothly.

On the other hand, the source said, the Thai government is dealing with illegal activities transiting from Thailand to neighboring countries, so it may not be the right time to start imposing the tourist tax now.
