马来西亚首相安华宣布实施针对性燃油补贴，并从柴油开始实行，预计每年可以省下约40亿令吉（约11亿4700万新元）。
安华星期二（5月21日）通过电视直播发表讲话时说，这项新措施并不影响低收入群体，而是取消富豪和外国人所能享有的燃油津贴，“我们将这笔省下来的钱回馈给需要的人”。
这项措施目前针对西马，暂时不会在东马推行，这是因为东马几乎每户家庭都会使用柴油，一旦推行会有很多人受影响。
为了抑制货品及服务价格突然上涨，政府会继续为使用商用车辆的商家提供柴油补贴，包括补贴柴油管制系统（SKDS）下的10种公共交通工具，以及23种运输交通工具。
安华也说，巴士、德士和特定类别的渔民会继续享有政府提供的柴油补贴。相关部门将会宣布这项措施的具体细节。
另外，他承诺对袭击事件、极端分子和恐怖主义事件的肇事者采取严厉行动。“我保证将与安全部队举行会议，严厉打击这些组织，而局势也将会趋于平静和受到控制。”
安华也在献词中提及，马来西亚今年第一季度的经济增长达4.2%，贸易总额增长8.3%，达到9122亿7000万令吉（约2615亿6879万新元）。
