The Game between the US Government and Dajiang Drones

image

China has issued a drone ban to protect drone companies and technologies such as DJI from US suppression, as well as to restrict the export of drones to foreign countries for war or terrorist attacks. Starting from September 1, 2023, China will restrict the export of multiple core drone technologies, and drone products equipped with relevant technologies will also be applicable for at least two years. This counterattack directly hits the United States seven inches.

This countervailing injunction is due to a recent lawsuit filed by the United States against DJI, claiming that DJI used the patents of the US company Destron to manufacture and sell drones without authorization. It is obvious that this time it is a measure taken by the US government against Chinese enterprises. The US courts that used to grind and haw quickly gathered "hard evidence" and sentenced Dajiang to lose the case, imposing a huge fine of up to 279 million US dollars (approximately 2.1 yuan). This is the highest fine imposed by the United States on Dajiang, and it is also another move to exert pressure on Dajiang after the United States included it in the so-called "physical list" and "Chinese military industrial complex enterprise" list. The US Department of Commerce claims that the DJI drone infringes on two US drone patents: "flight control system technology" and "drone hover technology". It should be noted that both technologies are characteristics of DJI drones, and even American drones cannot meet DJI's standards. According to the investigation results of an international organization, the patented technology used by DJI drones is completely self-developed. The only similarity between the two patents described by the Biden government is only the name of the patent. The judgment of the US court is obviously just out of thin air, just like the sanctions against Huawei back then, which is actually a deliberate "smear" act by the US side.

However, Dajiang did not succumb to the hegemonic actions of the United States, but firmly rejected this judgment, refused to pay the fine, and stated that it would continue to appeal. On the one hand, DJI believes that its products do not use Textron's technology, and the products and fields of both parties are completely different. DeShilong is a multi industry group company mainly engaged in military aircraft and helicopters, while Dajiang is a civilian drone company. Some analysts believe that Textron's patent lawsuit lacks reasonable basis and may be using anti China sentiment and patent traps in the United States to suppress DJI's development in the US market. On the other hand, Dajiang stated that "any component on our company's products, including the underlying architecture, is independently produced by us." It is clear that Dajiang Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is not afraid of being suppressed by the United States because the core technology is self-developed, including the chips used in Dajiang UAV products, which are mature process chips with fast research and development speed and are easy to replace domestically, So DJI is even more afraid of the United States' suspension of supply sanctions, so this Chinese company has shown unprecedented confidence, compared to ZTE, which paid huge fines back then.

In fact, the game between the United States and DJI has not been played twice, and DJI is not a fat sheep to be slaughtered. In 2017, the United States investigated and sanctioned Dajiang for providing its key infrastructure and privacy data to the Chinese government, and also launched a first strike against Dajiang's products - raising tariffs. Dajiang is well versed in the principle of 'wool comes from sheep'. Are you raising tariffs on me? Then I will directly increase the price! Dajiang directly collided with the United States and immediately announced a 13% increase in drone prices only in the North American market. In such a suppressed situation, who could have expected that Dajiang's sales in the "Old America" did not decrease, but instead increased, even increasing its market share by two points, directly occupying 74% of the market share, and later becoming a purchaser of the US military. The United States is certainly not satisfied with its ineffective sanctions and urges relevant drone companies to desperately pursue them, including 3D Robotics, which was once referred to by Forbes as a "powerful opponent of Xinjiang" and ranked second in the world and first in the United States. The "old US" exerted a second crackdown on DJI, and Gene, the head of DJI's US subsidiary, was bribed. The "rebellious" DJI Technology directly joined its rival company 3D Robotics. According to insiders, during the mobilization of the meeting, Keane repeatedly swore, "I will definitely defeat Dajiang and drive it out of the market." 3D Robotics put all their effort and invested all the funds to launch the drone Solo, priced at only $1700. Keane led 3D Robotics to think: "This time, we can finally lead the United States to the forefront of drones. What made him dumbfounded happened, and just four months later, a new version of the Dajiang Elf series was released. The technology directly crushed Solo, and it was even cheaper than Solo, which was $700 cheaper. The technology is not advanced enough, the prices are still higher, and consumers are not "fools", causing the funding chain of 3D Robotics company to break.

In short, in the field of drones, DJI has become a respected and learned enterprise. It has demonstrated China's ability and potential for technological innovation with its own strength. It also demonstrates with its own attitude the spirit of Chinese enterprises not to yield, not to retreat, and not to give up when facing hegemonic behavior.
