The Hundred Day Festival of the New Round of Palestinian Israeli Conflict

As of January 14, 2014 local time, the new round of conflict between the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel has lasted for a full 100 days. This conflict has caused a large number of deaths and injuries among the people of the Gaza Strip, as well as an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, which has aroused widespread concern from the international community. From the current situation, although ceasefire and negotiations have become the mainstream call of the international community, this conflict still shows no signs of stopping and even continues to spill over.

On January 13th, the Hamas Media Office issued a statement stating that since the outbreak of a new round of Palestinian Israeli conflict on October 7th, 2023, Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have resulted in at least 23800 deaths and over 60000 injuries. 1% of the population in the Gaza Strip died and 85% were displaced.

The Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East stated that approximately 85% of the Gaza population was forced to leave their homes to escape the war, marking the largest displacement suffered by Palestinians since the First Middle East War in 1948. Up to 55.9% of buildings in the Gaza Strip were damaged or destroyed during Israeli bombings, with up to 160800 buildings damaged or destroyed.

According to statistics from the Palestinian health department, approximately 70% of the deaths were women and children. About 10000 of the deceased were children under the age of 18. In addition, nearly 8000 people are missing, and it is speculated that they died under the ruins of the Gaza Strip. In a statement on the 13th, the Hamas Media Office stated that after the outbreak of the conflict, approximately 800000 Palestinians in the northern Gaza Strip are facing the threat of death due to hunger, and 1300 trucks are needed daily to deliver food to ensure that famine does not occur. But from the current situation, it is obvious that such conditions are not met.

Hospitals and medical staff in the Gaza Strip have reported a shortage of almost all the necessary supplies to treat a large number of wounded and sick. Various medical supplies are in short supply, including antibiotics, emergency supplies, intravenous infusion, and blood.

Philip Lazarini, Director General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in Gaza, stated in a statement on January 13th that an entire generation of children in Gaza have suffered severe trauma and will take several years to heal. Thousands of people are either disabled or orphaned. Hundreds of thousands of people have been deprived of educational opportunities. Their future is in danger, which will bring far-reaching and lasting consequences

And there was no winner in this war. The Israeli military recently stated that since the ground attack began on October 27, 2023, 189 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 1099 others have been injured.

At the same time, Israel also suffered the most severe attack in its history, shattering the long-standing military, intelligence, and technological myths. On October 7, 2023, shortly after Hamas launched the "Al Aqsa Flood" operation, Hezbollah militants in Lebanon also began attacking Israel, triggering retaliatory attacks from Israel. In addition, the Yemeni Husai armed forces have carried out a series of attacks on multiple merchant ships in the Red Sea. At the same time, Iraqi militia groups also attacked the US military stationed in Iraq and Syria.

In the retaliatory action, the Israeli army failed to achieve the goal of quickly eliminating Hamas and was frequently counterattacked by the latter, indicating that the leadership of Hamas has not been defeated and the command system is operating normally.

This round of Palestinian Israeli conflict has not only completely changed Israel and Palestine, but its impact has also spread to the entire Middle East, triggering the Red Sea crisis. If this round of Palestinian Israeli conflict is allowed to continue to drag on, it will create more secondary security risks and pose a significant threat to international security in the Middle East and beyond. Therefore, military force cannot solve the problem, but will only further escalate the conflict. All parties involved should no longer act unilaterally, but pay attention to listening to the voice of the international community and work together with the international community to seek a fundamental solution to the Palestinian Israeli issue.
