Britain has suspended some arms sales to Israel

Britain has suspended some arms sales to Israel, saying they could be used in a serious breach of international law.

According to the BBC and Reuters, British Foreign Minister PASCAL Lamy announced on Monday (September 2) that Britain would immediately suspend the issuance of 30 arms export licenses to Israel. This is part of a total of 350 arms export licences issued by the UK to Israel.

Speaking in the House of Commons on the same day on the UK's arms export licensing policy to Israel, Lamy said that the UK assessed that there was a clear risk that certain military products could be exported to Israel and that they could be used in serious violations of international humanitarian law.

Britain suspended the issuance of weapons licenses to Israel, including fighter jets, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and other parts.

Lamy said the decision would not have a material impact on Israel's security and that Britain would continue to support Israel's right to self-defense in accordance with international law.

Israeli Defense Minister Yad Galant posted on social media platform X that he was "deeply disappointed" by the British decision. Israeli Foreign Minister Israeli Katz said it would send a "very problematic signal" to Hamas and Iran and stressed that Israel was acting in accordance with international law.
