新华社开罗8月17日电（记者张健 姚兵）埃及内阁17日发表声明说，埃及政府当天批准为该国亚历山大阿布吉尔地铁项目向亚洲基础设施投资银行（亚投行）申请贷款。
根据埃及国际合作部和亚投行上月签署的协议，亚投行将向埃及提供2.5亿欧元贷款，用于阿布吉尔地铁线建设。
据了解，该项目的总成本为15亿欧元，将由亚投行、欧洲复兴开发银行、欧洲投资银行和法国开发署共同出资。
声明称，该项目旨在将连接亚历山大市市中心及该市东北部阿布吉尔地区的铁路线改造成高效地铁系统。目前，工程正处于施工阶段，建成后将提升亚历山大市的运输能力，缓解交通拥堵。
