U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has said he will impose an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods and a 25 percent tariff on all products entering the United States from Mexico and Canada when he takes office.
According to Bloomberg and Reuters, Trump posted on Truth Social, a social media platform he founded, on Monday (November 25), saying that due to the influx of illegal drugs such as narcotics, the United States will impose an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods on top of all existing tariffs.
"On January 20th, as one of my first executive orders, I will be signing all necessary documents to impose a 25 per cent tariff on all Mexican and Canadian products coming into the United States," Mr Trump said in another post.
"Drugs are pouring into our country, primarily through Mexico, in unprecedented numbers," Trump said. He blamed the influx of immigrants and illegal drugs from Mexico and Canada on a "ridiculous open border policy."
On January 4th local time, Trump warned India that if it does not limit its purchase of Russian oil, the United States will continue to raise tariffs on Indian products. Trump's latest warning sent shockwaves through the Indian financial market in just one day.
