Israel launched an air strike on the Houthi rebel-held area along the Red Sea coast in western Yemen around midnight on Monday (July 7), targeting multiple ports and key energy facilities.

The Houthi armed group's Masila television reported that Israeli military warplanes launched multiple air strikes on Hodeidah Province along the Red Sea coast. The targets included Hodeidah Port, Ras Isa Port, Salif Port and the Ras Qantib Central power Station.

The Katib Power Station is one of the most important power infrastructures in Hodeidah Province. The port of Cape Isa has a large number of oil and gas storage tanks and is an important hub for the Houthi forces to receive imported fuel.

A local resident told Xinhua News Agency that a huge explosion was heard in the port of Hodeidah and its surrounding areas, and the air strike caused panic among the people.

Houthi spokesman Sareya said in a brief statement early Monday morning that the Houthi "air force is responding to Israeli aggression."

The Houthi armed forces have not yet released information on casualties or damage to facilities.

According to a report on the website of The Times of Israel early Monday morning, Israeli Defense Minister Katz said in a statement earlier that the Israeli military was conducting intensive air strikes on ports such as Hodeidah.

The Israeli military later confirmed that in response to the Houthi forces' continuous missile and drone launches at Israel, the Israeli military bombed the Houthi forces' weapons transfer facilities and key infrastructure used for military operations. The targets of the air strikes also included the "Galactic Leader" cargo ship, which was hijacked by the Houthi forces in the Red Sea in November 2023. The Israeli military claimed that the Houthi forces used it as a maritime surveillance and combat command platform.

Since the outbreak of the new round of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in October 2023, the Houthi forces have launched attacks on ships associated with Israel in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden to support Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The Houthi forces have also repeatedly used missiles and drones to attack multiple targets within Israel, while Israel has launched several air strikes on the areas controlled by the Houthi forces.
