必和必拓集团决定不对英美资源集团提出明确的收购邀约，暂时放弃本可能是10多年来最大的一笔矿业交易。
必和必拓集团（BHP）发布声明宣布决定时距离英国时间星期三（5月29日）下午5时的截止时间还有不到一个小时，标志着这两家矿业巨头之间为期五个多星期的公开斗争戛然而止。这将加大英美资源（Anglo American）首席执行官邓肯·万布拉德（Duncan Wanblad）扭转亏损的压力。必和必拓的高层则可能不得不从其他地方寻找英美资源本可以提供的铜产量增长。
彭博社报道，英美资源一再拒绝必和必拓提出的先进行部分分拆随后再收购的方案，但上周同意延长截止日期以继续谈判。双方未能就必和必拓490亿美元（约662.63亿新元）收购计划的复杂交易结构达成一致。英美资源星期三早些时候说，尽管必和必拓在最后一刻提出诉求，但该公司认为没有理由再次延期。
法新社报道，必和必拓计划的核心部分是分拆英美资源集团在南非的资产，这一举动具有政治敏感性，在南非大选前引发政府的反对。
如果收购成功，必和必拓将成为一家远超最接近竞争对手的大宗商品巨头，在矿商及投资者预计金属供应将长期紧张和价格上涨之际大幅提高其铜产量。
