German Chancellor Merz said that the talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be held within the next two weeks.

Reuters reported that Mertz said on Monday (August 18) that US President Trump agreed to hold Russia-Ukraine talks after a phone call with Putin, but the specific location has not yet been determined.

He told reporters, "The US President had a phone call with the Russian president and agreed that Russian President Putin and Ukraine's Zelensky would hold talks within the next two weeks."

He added that Trump agreed to issue an invitation for a trilateral meeting later in order to truly start the negotiations.

After holding talks with Zelensky and other European leaders on Monday, Trump posted on social media: "I called Putin and began to arrange a meeting between Putin and Zelensky. The specific location is to be determined." After the meeting, we will hold a trilateral meeting, namely the two presidents and myself. Once again, it is emphasized that this is a very positive and timely step.
