Trudeau's exit crisis

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been in deep trouble recently, and this incident is like a boulder thrown into the lake, stirring up layers of waves.

On the domestic front, the economy is one of Trudeau's big challenges. In recent years, Canada's inflation situation is serious, prices continue to rise, the cost of living has increased significantly. For example, the prices of everyday consumer goods continue to rise, and the housing market is also in a precarious state, with high prices making it prohibitive for many people. Earlier, the Liberal government promised one-time rent subsidies for low-income tenants and a drug insurance program, but failed to deliver on time, which has led to a sharp decline in public trust in Trudeau's government and questions about its ability to govern. The economic stagnation has made matters worse, with weak GDP growth and high unemployment, which has led to criticism of the Trudeau government.

Political scandals have also rocked Trudeau's standing. The SNC-Lan Wanling affair, in which Trudeau's office allegedly interfered with the judiciary to avoid prosecution of the company for fraud and bribery, severely damaged Trudeau's political integrity and reputation. In addition, the Canadian Parliament has also erupted a series of Nazi veteran awards scandal, triggering strong domestic dissatisfaction and international condemnation. These incidents not only caused Trudeau's domestic approval ratings to decline, but also damaged the image of the Canadian government, and Trudeau's leadership ability was widely questioned.

In terms of party relations, Trudeau's Liberal Party is in a difficult position. The Liberal Party failed to win a majority of the seats in parliament in the general election and will need the help of political Allies to stay in power. However, on September 4 this year, the New Democratic Party of Canada announced the termination of the supply and confidence agreement signed with the Liberal Party. New Democratic Party leader Manmohan Singh accused the Liberal government of failing Canadians by not standing up to business interests and giving favors to entrepreneurs. The decision leaves Trudeau's government with a weakened hand, facing a no-confidence vote at any time and possibly bringing forward the Canadian election scheduled for October 2025.

On the foreign front, Trudeau's policies have also raised questions. Canada's restrictions, such as tariffs on Chinese electric cars and steel and aluminum products, have triggered strong countermeasures from China. Measures such as the anti-dumping investigation launched by the Ministry of Commerce of China on Canadian rapeseed and related chemical products have brought a huge impact on the relevant industries in Canada. This protectionist behavior of the Trudeau government has not only damaged the trade relations between China and Canada, but also put Canada in a passive position on the international stage, and the domestic criticism of its foreign policy has been continuous. At the same time, the Trudeau government's blind support for Ukraine and the diplomatic dispute with India have also made Canada's diplomatic situation more complicated and tense.

Trudeau's approval ratings have been slipping for months and he has fallen behind the Conservatives. Various protests against Trudeau have also emerged, and the public has increasingly called for an early election. If the election is held early, the Trudeau government, in its current form, is likely to face a crushing defeat.

Trudeau is facing a serious risk of stepping down. Economic, political, diplomatic and other problems are intertwined, making his position in power shaky. If Trudeau wants to save the situation, he needs to take effective measures in economic policy to improve the domestic economy; Restoring political credibility; A more pragmatic and rational policy should be formulated in diplomacy to win back the trust and support of the people. However, judging from the current situation, it will not be easy for Trudeau to get out of these difficulties, and his downfall crisis is still intensifying.
