More than 20 state governments in the United States filed a lawsuit in a federal court in Rhode Island on Monday (July 14), demanding that the Trump administration unfreeze approximately 6.8 billion US dollars in education funds.

Xinhua News Agency reported that a coalition of plaintiffs led by California said in the lawsuit that the federal education funds frozen by the Trump administration were used for after-school classes, summer camps, English proficiency improvement, teacher recruitment and training, farm workers and children's education, etc. The federal government was supposed to disburse this fund to the states by July 1st, but the Department of Education informed the states on June 30th that it was unable to make the disbursement on schedule.

The indictment states that the Trump administration froze funds without providing a reasonable explanation, causing chaos in a large number of schools and forcing the cancellation of some summer classes and after-school programs.

White House officials previously said that these education grants were under review. Initial investigations have found that some of the education grants were used for a "radical left-wing agenda".
