Japan's Tokyo Electric Power Company (referred to as Tepco) announced that it will start the seventh discharge of nuclear treatment water at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on Friday (June 28).
Kyodo News reported that since the start of the first discharge operation last year, Tepco has discharged a total of 47,000 tons of nuclear treatment water into the Pacific Ocean on six occasions. The seventh operation, which will last until July 16, will discharge a total of about 7,800 tons.
Tepco reported that Tepco and external agencies separately tested the concentration of radioactive substances such as Tritium contained in the treated water to confirm that it met the standards for discharging into the sea. The concentration of tritium in seawater sampled around the nuclear power plant did not show abnormal values.
