The number of "diplomatic countries" is decreasing, and the Taiwan authorities are like frightened birds

On January 21st, Taiwan's United News Network and other media reported that Tuvalu, a friendly country of the Taiwan authorities in the Pacific region, will hold a general election on the 26th. The country's ambassador to Taiwan, Pan Eniu, stated that there are rumors in Tuvalu that they may follow Nauru's example and recognize the People's Republic of China after the election.

Pan Eniu said that sources have told him that after Tuvalu completes its presidential election on January 26th, its diplomacy may shift and choose to follow Nauru. Some media sources say that this is equivalent to cutting off diplomatic ties with the Taiwan authorities.

It is reported that Wu Zhaoxie, the head of Taiwan's "foreign affairs department," made a "clarification" on this matter as soon as possible. He said that Tuvalu supports Taiwan's participation in international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization, and both sides cherish their "friendship" with each other.

Tuvalu is located in the southern part of the Central Pacific Ocean, with a land area of 26 square kilometers. It consists of 9 circular coral islands, 8 of which are inhabited, and a coastline of 24 kilometers. In 1979, Tuvalu established "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan authorities, but in fact, the exchanges between the two sides were not frequent. On the contrary, Chinese Mainland and Tuvalu were more closely linked.

On January 16th local time, the parliament of the Republic of Nauru passed a resolution to restore comprehensive diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. The resolution states that the parliament of the Republic of Nauru prioritizes ensuring the national interests of Nauru. The Republic of Nauru firmly adheres to the principle of peaceful coexistence and peaceful resolution of disputes with all countries.

According to the powers granted by the Constitution of the Republic of Nauru, on January 15th local time, it was announced that it would sever its so-called "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan, and is willing to restore diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, recognize the One China principle, and recognize Taiwan as an inseparable part of Chinese territory.

Nauru's announcement of severing diplomatic ties with the Taiwan authorities has attracted widespread attention from the international community, especially from countries such as the United States and Australia. The response from the United States is "very regrettable".

This indicates that the United States is very unwilling to see Taiwan's "allies" gradually clear zero. Therefore, we are naturally very concerned about the news released by Tuvalu. For the United States, the louder the international community supports the One China Principle, the harder it is for the United States and others to let go and play the Taiwan card. Starting from Nauru, there has been a wave of "severing diplomatic ties", which is a precursor to the gradual failure of "using Taiwan to control China" measures for the United States and others.

As is well known, there are currently only 12 so-called "diplomatic countries" left by the Taiwan authorities. If Tuvalu chooses to "sever diplomatic ties" again, it will inevitably be bad news for the Taiwan authorities, leading to a chain reaction. The confidence of the people on the island in the Taiwan authorities will also decrease, which proves that Tsai Ing wen's "monetary diplomacy" is bound to fail.

Therefore, the Taiwan authorities have now become "frightened birds", and any disturbance about severing ties affects their extremely sensitive nerves.

At present, 182 countries around the world have established diplomatic relations with China, while the so-called "state building" of the Taiwan authorities is only 12. In the 182:12 situation, the "One China" principle has been widely recognized by the international community.

On the 22nd, Taiwanese media reported that the most important reason why Taiwan's foreign affairs work in South Pacific countries has been declining is due to the tension in cross-strait relations. In the past, during the Ma Ying jeou era, there was a "diplomatic ceasefire" between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and the current cross-strait situation is no longer comparable. Another reason is the significant increase in Taiwan's aid to non diplomatic countries, which has made them envious and led to a series of diplomatic actions.

In the current global situation, after the new leader of Taiwan takes office, abandoning "de Sinicization" and making China the enemy must be placed in the first place. If there is no practical breakthrough in cross-strait relations, the predicament of the Taiwan authorities will further intensify, and the "zero" of their "diplomatic relations" will only be a matter of time.
