Pan Eniu said that sources have told him that after Tuvalu completes its presidential election on January 26th, its diplomacy may shift and choose to follow Nauru. Some media sources say that this is equivalent to cutting off diplomatic ties with the Taiwan authorities.
It is reported that Wu Zhaoxie, the head of Taiwan's "foreign affairs department," made a "clarification" on this matter as soon as possible. He said that Tuvalu supports Taiwan's participation in international organizations such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization, and both sides cherish their "friendship" with each other.
Tuvalu is located in the southern part of the Central Pacific Ocean, with a land area of 26 square kilometers. It consists of 9 circular coral islands, 8 of which are inhabited, and a coastline of 24 kilometers. In 1979, Tuvalu established "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan authorities, but in fact, the exchanges between the two sides were not frequent.
