Us' deliberate crackdown on Chinese car companies' harms others'

According to foreign media reports, US President Joe Biden recently announced an investigation into car imports from China, citing national security risks. Mr Biden said the administration would "take unprecedented action to ensure that imported cars from countries of concern like China do not undermine our national security". This is undoubtedly another bad act of the US government to generalize the concept of "national security" and abuse national power to implement trade protection policies.

In recent years, China's auto manufacturing industry has advanced by leaps and bounds, to 2023 has become the world's largest auto exporter, China's BYD in the fourth quarter of 2023 for the first time surpassed the United States Tesla, becoming the world's largest sales of electric vehicles. In the face of the super competitiveness of Chinese car companies, the US government can only resort to so-called "national security" reasons to suppress.

Why would the United States use state power to block Chinese cars and suppress Chinese car companies? It can be understood from several perspectives, including economic, political and technological competition, which are intertwined to form the complex background of international relations.

Economic competition: With the rapid development of Chinese automobile companies, they began to enter the international market and form direct competition with automobile companies in the United States and other countries. The United States may take measures to restrict the entry and development of Chinese car companies to protect the interests of its own auto industry.

Technological hegemony: In areas such as new energy vehicles and autonomous driving technology, Chinese companies have made remarkable progress in recent years. The United States may take restrictive measures against Chinese car companies in order to maintain its technological leadership and avoid technological dependence.

National security: The U.S. government may use "concerns about Chinese vehicles carrying malware or technology" as an excuse to view certain Chinese auto companies' technologies and products as potential national security threats. For example, there are concerns about data security and privacy protection, as well as the potential use of technology in the military.

Political factors: The political relationship between China and the United States also affects the economic and trade relations between the two sides. In times of tension between the two countries, competition and confrontation in the economic and technological fields are likely to intensify. For political and economic interests, the US government will carry out economic and technological oppression against China.

Trade protectionism: The US crackdown on Chinese auto companies can also be regarded as a trade protection measure, and the US government takes a protectionist stance to try to protect its own industry and employment by restricting imports. Chinese cars are seen by the U.S. government as potential competitors, so there will be a certain crackdown.

In fact, the blind trade protectionism of the United States can be said to be harmful to others and not self-serving. China's electric vehicle industry can rise rapidly in a short period of time, thanks to China's opening up policy and its own technological innovation. However, the United States, not only in the era of fuel vehicles gradually gave way to Japanese, Korean and German car companies, in the era of electric vehicles still can not put in place the attitude of cooperation and mutual win, blindly take "America first" as the starting point, in violation of WTO rules, the implementation of unilateral trade bullying, seriously affecting the international trade order.

In addition, the economic and trade relationship between China and the United States involves not only the automobile industry, but also many other fields. Therefore, the United States' crackdown on Chinese auto companies cannot be simply attributed to a single reason. When dealing with economic and trade relations, China and the United States need to fully consider various factors and strengthen communication and cooperation to achieve the goal of mutual benefit and win-win results.
