The US presidential election has affected the situation in the Middle East and the ceasefire talks

(Egypt/Jerusalem) The US presidential election has stirred up the Middle East, and Hamas has rejected Egypt's proposal for a short-term truce in the Gaza Strip during ceasefire talks in Cairo.

Despite the collapse of the talks, diplomats said the talks were still ongoing, with all options on the table and both sides closely watching the U.S. presidential election to determine how to respond.

According to The Times of Israel, Egypt proposed a 48-hour ceasefire between Israel and Israel, and within 10 days, Hamas would release four Israeli hostages, while Israel would release about 100 Palestinian prisoners, and the two sides would negotiate a permanent ceasefire.

Hamas has made it clear that it will only agree to short-term deals that include guarantees of a long-term deal. Since Israel has not agreed to a long-term deal, the Egyptian proposal does not include such a guarantee.

According to Israeli media reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has asked for the Egyptian proposal, including Israel's military presence in the Philadelphia Corridor along the Gaza Strip's border with Egypt and in central Gaza. Netanyahu is prepared to offer millions of dollars for each hostage. He was also prepared to promise safe passage out of Gaza for Hamas members and their families who had been freed.

Israeli forces attack Hezbollah intelligence headquarters in Syria

After the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Israeli army also stepped up its strikes on targets in Syria. On Monday, the Israeli military said it had struck a Hezbollah intelligence center in Syria, adding that the Syrian cell included an independent intelligence gathering, coordination and assessment network.

The Israeli military stated that the air strikes by Israeli fighter jets were intended to degrade Hezbollah's intelligence-gathering capabilities.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes killed two Hezbollah members in southern Damascus and hit a house used by Hezbollah and members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard on a farm.

Syrian state media said the attack took place at about 5:18 p.m. local time. One resident, Mahfouz, said he heard three explosions in a row, one very strong, and then saw a large cloud of black smoke rising.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on Tuesday (5) that the Israeli army continued its operations in southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, striking about 100 targets in the past day, including weapons storage facilities, rocket launching stations, military buildings, etc.

At least 16 people are known to have been killed in Israeli air strikes in northern, central and southern Gaza on Monday.

In response to the unannounced shelling of Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last functioning hospital in northern Gaza, which injured several hospital staff, the Israeli Army said it would investigate and that it was continuing to take action against terrorist infrastructure in northern and central Gaza.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has not improved

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has accused Israel of reducing the number of aid trucks allowed into Gaza, exacerbating shortages of food, medicine and other essentials.

Unrwa Director General Hazarini said Israel had reduced the number of aid trucks entering Gaza to an average of 30 a day, or 6 percent of the commercial and aid shipments entering Gaza before the conflict, failing to meet the needs of Gaza's estimated 2 million people.

Although the United States requested Israel to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza in early October, it has not significantly reversed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In a phone call Monday with Israeli Defense Minister Yves Galant, U.S. Secretary of State Blinken urged Israel to go further and significantly increase humanitarian aid to Gaza.
