花旗集团（Citigroup）计划在明年1月初展开新的直接贷款策略，在市场总额达1.6万亿美元（约2.14万亿新元）的私人信贷市场中，力争一杯羹。
彭博社引述消息人士说，这项计划将与银行现有的广泛银团杠杆金融业务起到相辅相成的作用。这包括与外部伙伴合作，为贷款提供资本。
报道指出，相关讨论正在进行中，细节可能会更新。花旗集团发言人不愿针对这项计划置评。
花旗集团最近传出不少内部变化，星期一（11月20日）刚宣布新一轮管理层变动。这是花旗集团进行全面重组以简化营运模式的一部分行动。
花旗集团的宣布并没提供裁员数字，只表示全球范围内的裁员可能持续到明年。但彭博社星期一报道说，根据知情人士，花旗集团将裁退超过300名高级经理人员，影响首席执行官的执行管理小组之下两层的人员，相当于该层人员总数的10％。
花旗集团发言人接受《联合早报》询问时，不愿对上述人事变动置评。
私人贷款市场日益蓬勃
私人贷款市场日益蓬勃，除了花旗集团，其他银行如富国银行（Wells Fargo）、巴克莱（Barclays）和法兴银行（Societe Generale）今年来都进军这个领域。
花旗集团展开新策略的目的，是为潜在贷款人提供高收益债券、杠杆贷款或私人信贷等不同选项。私募股权所有者或贷款公司可根据本身的需要，选择合适的贷款方式。

消息人向彭博社透露，花旗集团要为新一波的并购交易热潮做好准备，因为私募股权企业最终必须卖掉手上的投资组合公司，以便偿还投资者。
这项策略也有助于花旗集团赚取把客户转接给第三方借贷方的费用，并让银行提供现金管理，或对冲策略等辅助服务。
