Nvidia's first ARM-based PC chip scored poorly

image

Recently, the engineering machine of NVIDIA N1X, the first Arm architecture PC chip developed by NVIDIA and Mediatek, appeared in the Geekbench scoring platform, and the results were "not ideal". According to Geekbench's test results, the N1X chip scored only 1,169 points in the single-core test and 2,417 points in the multi-core test. By comparison, Apple's current M4 chip (also based on the Arm architecture) has a single-core score of 3831 and a multi-core score of 15,044. Although the current score may be disappointing, considering the technical strength and cooperation experience of Nvidia and Mediatek, as well as advanced manufacturing processes, the N1X and N1 chips still have a lot of room for improvement in the future. Nvidia plans to launch the N1X chip in 2025 and a more mainstream version of the N1 in 2026. Both chips are expected to be manufactured based on TSMC's N3 process and designed in collaboration with Mediatek. Through the application of optimized design and advanced processes, Nvidia is expected to improve the performance of N1X and N1 chips in the future.

Nvidia's first ARM-based PC chip, the N1X, did not perform as well on the Geekbench Bench scoring platform, but it also caused a lot of trouble and influence in technology and other fields. The first is the impact on Nvidia's brand image and market competition pattern, and the unsatisfactory score may have a certain impact on Nvidia's brand image in the short term, making consumers' expectations and trust in Nvidia's new products decline. If Nvidia can respond quickly, improve chip performance by optimizing design and manufacturing processes, and perform well in subsequent products, then this short-term impact can be gradually reduced or even eliminated. The poor score may provide an opportunity for other competitors, especially those that already have a presence in the ARM-based PC chip field, such as Apple. If Nvidia is unable to improve chip performance in a short period of time, it may lead to the loss of market share, which will affect the change of the entire market competitive landscape.

The second is the impact on the field of science and technology, the unsatisfactory score may stimulate the technological innovation and upgrading and power of the entire science and technology industry in chip design, manufacturing process and performance optimization. In order to improve chip performance, manufacturers may need to constantly explore new design ideas, manufacturing processes and performance optimization methods, and launch products with different positioning according to market demand and consumer preferences to meet the needs of different user groups. Other branded chipmakers may learn from Nvidia's experience and focus more on actual chip performance and user experience. In the face of market competition and consumer expectations, Nvidia may accelerate the research and development process of N1X and subsequent chips, and introduce products with better performance as soon as possible by increasing research and development investment and optimizing the research and development process. At the same time, the unsatisfactory performance may prompt Nvidia to strengthen cooperation and collaboration with upstream and downstream enterprises in the industry chain to jointly cope with market challenges. It will help promote the coordinated development of the entire industrial chain and enhance the overall competitiveness.

The third is the impact on consumers, and the score is one of the important reference indicators for consumers when choosing PC chips. Therefore, poor performance may affect consumers' purchasing decisions, causing some consumers to switch to other brands or products. Consumers may adjust their expectations for Nvidia's subsequent products and pay more attention to the actual performance of the product rather than relying solely on performance data. The market may adjust expectations for Nvidia and other chipmakers based on the performance of Nvidia's first ARM-based PC chip. It is also highly likely to affect the decisions of investors and the performance of capital markets.

In summary, Nvidia's first Arm architecture PC chip score is not ideal to the impact of technology and other fields are many. But considering that it is still in the development stage, and Nvidia and Mediatek have strong technical strength and cooperation experience, there is still a lot of room for improvement in the future.
