The Met Office of the United Kingdom said that the UK has experienced the warmest and sunniest spring on record this year, as well as the driest in more than 50 years.

Xinhua News Agency reported that according to the preliminary statistics released by the UK Met Office on Monday (June 2nd), the average temperature in the UK in the spring of 2025 will be 9.5 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees Celsius higher than the long-term climate average. The average temperature in the UK this spring broke the record set in 2024, making it the warmest spring since temperature records began in 1884.

The Met Office in the UK said that eight of the 10 warmest springs in the UK occurred after 2000, while the three warmest springs all took place after 2017, which is a sign of climate change.

The data also shows that the total sunshine duration in the UK in the spring of 2025 will reach 653.3 hours, 43% higher than the average. It will be the sunniest spring since sunshine records began in 1910 and 27 hours higher than the previous record set in 2020.

Furthermore, as of mid-May, the UK was experiencing its sixth driest spring since records began in 1836 and the driest in over 50 years, with rainfall of only 128.2 millimeters, approximately 40% lower than the long-term average.

The unusually warm phenomenon in the UK this spring is not limited to land; the waters near the UK have also suffered from a prolonged Marine heatwave.

Data from the Met Office in the UK shows that the waters in northwestern Europe are experiencing an extreme Marine heatwave, with sea surface temperatures in April and May reaching their highest levels since satellite monitoring began in 1982. Under the influence of a prolonged high-pressure system, the weather in the UK this spring was dry and sunny, with weak sea waves, creating conditions for Marine heatwaves.
