美国纽约市以安全问题为由，禁止在政府所有的设备上使用TikTok。
综合彭博社和路透社报道，纽约市政厅发言人星期三（8月16日）发声明说，纽约市各单位必须在30天内从政府拥有的所有电子设备中移除。发言人说，纽约市网络指挥部在审查后做出了这一决定，认为TikTok对纽约市的技术网络构成威胁。
纽约州已经禁止国有手机使用TikTok，除非有开展政府业务的合法理由。蒙大拿州更是从明年起在全州范围内禁止居民使用这一应用。一群TikTok用户在法庭上对此举提出了质疑。
美国官员担心，中国短视频应用TikTok母公司字节跳动的所有权，可能会导致中国不适当地收集数据或施加不当压力。但TikTok表明，不会与母公司或中国政府共享信息，而且在美国的新公司结构也是为了解决这些问题。
包括联邦调查局局长克里斯托弗·雷和中央情报局局长伯恩斯在内的美国高级安全官员都说TikTok构成威胁。克里斯托弗·雷于3月说，中国政府可能利用TikTok来控制数百万设备上的软件，并煽动分裂美国人的言论。
路透社与益普索公司星期三发布的最新调查显示，近一半的美国成年人支持禁止使用TikTok。
