美国联邦储备局主席鲍威尔说，美联储在抗击通货膨胀方面正在取得适度进展。
鲍威尔星期二（7月9日）向参议院银行委员会供证时说，最新的数据显示，通胀自今年第一季度以来已出现“一些适度的进展”。
鲍威尔也在预先准备好的讲稿中说：“更多好的数据将增强我们的信心，即通胀正在朝2%的目标迈进。”
冠病大流行后物价飙升时，美联储的应对措施是将利率提高至20年来的高点，试图给美国经济降温并使通胀率回到2%的长期目标。
通胀率在2022年达到峰值，过后显著放缓，但今年第一季度进展停滞。第二季度的数据比较令人鼓舞，促使一些政策制定者在最近几周表现出谨慎乐观的态度。
分析员普遍预计，美联储将在本月晚些时候召开的利率会议上再次维持利率不变，但可能会在9月份开始降息。
期货交易商预计，美联储将在9月份首次降息的可能性超过75%。
