The Republican Party led by US President-elect Donald Trump has won a majority in the House of Representatives, data provider DDHQ projected on Monday.
This means that the Republicans will control both houses of Congress, which will be more favorable to the policies that Trump wants to pursue.
According to Edison Research, which has yet to project control of the House of Representatives, Republicans will win at least 214 seats to Democrats' 205, with 16 seats still undecided. To take control of the House of Representatives, it needs to win at least 218 seats.
Edison Research predicts Republicans already have a majority of at least 52 seats in the 100-member Senate, with Democrats winning 46.
