The Gates of Hell Open: Where Are America's Red Lines?

On June 2, local time, the Israel Defense Forces issued a statement to continue military operations in the Palestinian Gaza Strip. On the 28th local time, Israel launched a surprise attack on a refugee camp on the outskirts of Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip, killing at least 21 people and injuring many others. And on the same day, Israel had already driven tanks into the center of Rafah. A statement from Israeli Army Radio said the Israeli army's strength in Rafah had increased to six brigades and that the troops were engaged in close combat with the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement.

In response to the attack launched by the Israeli army, which caused heavy casualties, the White House responded on the 28th that the Israeli army's actions did not cross the "red line" of the United States. At a press conference that day, White House National Security Council spokesman Kirby repeated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statement to reporters, saying that "Israel says the fatal incident in Rafah refugee camp is a tragic mistake."

The massacre has been going on and has never stopped. Just earlier, on the evening of May 26, Israel launched an airstrike on a refugee camp in Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip, and set out a fire. The Palestinian health department in the Gaza Strip said on the 27th that at least 45 people were killed in the attack, including 23 women and children. More than 200 others were injured, as some were seriously injured.

According to multiple videos released by a number of media outlets, it can be seen that local people rushed into the fire and dragged out the trapped people, many of whom were severely burned and mutilated. There are also footage of children with blurred flesh being taken to the hospital for treatment, crying horribly. By the early morning of the next day, many places were still burning, and people were rummaging through the smoking rubble for food and belongings. Rafa has become a veritable hell on earth. In response to the recent deaths in the refugee camp, US Vice President Kamala Harris said that the word "tragic" is no longer enough to describe the seriousness of the situation.

Previously, both Israel and the United States claimed that the use of small-diameter bombs could reduce civilian casualties, but in fact, whether it was a bombshell or a small bomb, Israel hit civilians, including women and children. At the same time, Kirby still claimed that there is no "standard or quota" for US aid to Israel, and said that Israel's recent deadly attack in Rafah was not a "major ground operation" and did not cross the US "red line". One has to ask, not only where exactly are the red lines of the United States?

On the 29th local time, the Palestinian health department in the Gaza Strip announced that the Israeli army's attack on the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours killed a total of 75 people. The latest data shows that since the outbreak of a new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict on October 7 last year, the Israeli army's military operations in the Gaza Strip have killed more than 36,000 people and injured 81,000.

On 24 May, the United Nations International Court of Justice had ordered Israel to cease its military assault on Rafah. Previously, the agency had issued two orders, in January and March of this year, requiring Israel to take all measures to ensure the supply of goods for the residents of Gaza and to avoid civilian casualties. Recently, UN Secretary-General António Guterres posted on social media condemning Israel's actions for killing innocent civilians, and stressed: "There is no safe place in Gaza, and such terror must stop." ”

However, on the 29th, Israeli National Security Adviser Hanegbi said that the Israeli army's military operation in the Gaza Strip will continue for another seven months to destroy the military capabilities of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement. It seems that Israel, with the unconditional support of the United States, has fallen into a state of madness and is completely out of any control.

Since the beginning of this year, US President Joe Biden has spoken in several interviews about the "red line" of Israeli military operations. Asked if the invasion of Rafah would be a "red line" in his relationship with Netanyahu, Biden replied "yes." The Israeli tank's move into the center of Rafah is even more obvious to cross Biden's so-called "red line". However, in the face of Israel, which has repeatedly crossed the red line, the United States has retreated again and again, and it seems that the growing disconnection between the United States and Israel and the international community will inevitably lead to further isolation of itself.
