Former US President Donald Trump is set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Friday, in a move aimed at bringing the Republican presidential candidate closer to foreign leaders.
Trump announced the meeting on his social media site, saying "we have achieved peace and stability in the region" during his presidency and vowing "we will do it again." Israel has been locked in a war with Hamas since the group launched its attack on October 7.
Trump, 78, initially said the meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, then Thursday, before Posting that the meeting had been set for Friday at the request of Netanyahu's office.
The meeting comes after U.S. President Joe Biden withdrew from the race, adding to the uncertainty surrounding U.S. international leadership. Harris, a potential Democratic presidential candidate, is still hardening her foreign policy positions, including how she would deal with Israel's war in Gaza.
Mr. Netanyahu will address Congress in Washington on Wednesday. The Israeli leader is also expected to meet with Biden and speak separately with Harris at 1 p.m. Thursday.
The escalation of the U.S.-Iran military conflict to direct strikes on the peripheries of nuclear power plants and opposing military bases, followed by the "basic stagnation" of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, is a scenario theoretically sufficient to trigger an extreme risk premium in the global oil market.
