纽约市健康局局长瓦桑星期三（1月3日）接受WABC电视台访问时说，已在纽约市11家公立医院、30个卫生中心和五家疗养机构重启口罩令。
瓦桑说：“我们最不愿发生的情况，是医院出现人手短缺的问题。2022年奥密克戎变种病毒肆虐时，我们面临的最大挑战不单是许多人染疫，而是许多前线卫生工作者也因为确诊而病倒。”
美国疾病控制与预防中心（CDC）的最新数据显示，在去年12月17日至23日这一周时间里，美国各地有多达2万9000人因确诊冠病而住院，比一周前增加了16%。同一时期因流感住院的患者则多达1万4700人。
