路透社报道，难民署就全球被迫流离失所趋势发布的报告说，在过去12年里，流离失所者数目逐年增加。2024年前四个月，流离失所者持续增加，到4月底，人数可能已过1.2亿。

格兰迪谈到新冲突的风险时说：“除非国际地缘政治发生变化，否则，这个数字会继续上升。”
导致流离失所的冲突包括关注度不如其他危机的苏丹战争，格兰迪将它描述为“最具灾难性的战争之一”。他说，这场战争已致900多万人在境内流离失所，另有200万人逃往乍得、埃及和南苏丹等邻国。
在加沙地带，以色列的轰炸和地面行动导致约170万人（为巴勒斯坦人口的近八成）在境内流离失所，其中许多人多次流离失所。
格兰迪警告，加沙人可能从南部边境城镇拉法（Rafah）越界进入埃及以躲避战火，他说：“加沙以外地区再次发生难民危机，在各个层面上都将是灾难性的，因为我们无法保证人们有朝一日能够返回加沙。”
