Some notes related to the suspect of the shooting incident at the White House press conference criticized President Trump's policies. However, Trump claimed that the suspect had written an anti-Christian "declaration" before entering the banquet hall.
The New York Times quoted an insider as saying that investigators had collected some text messages and notes from the suspect, Cole Tomas Allen. The content of these messages condemned the policies of the Trump administration and briefly described the violent actions he would take.
Trump said on Sunday (April 26th) that the gunman had written an anti-Christian "declaration", "filled with hatred", and that the gunman was immediately subdued by law enforcement officers and did not approach the banquet hall where the dinner was being held.
The White House press dinner was held at the Hilton Hotel in Washington on the 25th. Shortly after the event began, a gunman named Allen opened fire at a security checkpoint in the hotel, hitting a Secret Service agent. He was later arrested by the law enforcement officers.
The investigators are still examining the suspect's message notes and other evidence to determine his motive. This attack appears to have been targeted at Trump and his senior officials.
According to The Wall Street Journal, some documents related to the suspect mentioned some security loopholes, stating that due to these security flaws, it was much easier for the shooters to bring firearms into the hotel where the White House press conference was held than they had originally planned.
On the 26th, Trump said in an interview with Fox News that the suspect was "a problematic individual". His family had previously expressed concerns to the police about him before the shooting incident occurred.
Trump said, "When you read his manifesto, you will find that he hates Christians."
A law enforcement official told Reuters that the suspect's family received this declaration before the shooting incident. The suspect claimed in the declaration that he was a "friendly federal assassin".
The declaration reads: "Standing idly by while others are oppressed is contrary to Christian teachings. It is tantamount to being an accomplice to the oppressors."
The acting US Attorney General, Blanche, said that the suspect has been detained and is facing multiple charges including assaulting federal law enforcement officers and illegally firing a gun.
The suspect, Alan, will appear in court for arraignment on the 27th. A law enforcement officer who was wearing a bulletproof vest and was shot during the incident has been discharged from the hospital.
